Family Rock

  • Climbing together makes a family stronger. Being at the rock, watching each other play in the vertical landscape, stimulates conversation, enthusiasm, and celebration as your family members accomplish things they have never done before. Everyone is always surprised how well everyone does. Everyone is always surprised at how much easier it is than they thought.

"I may never become a climber, but I am sure glad I gave the opportunity to my kids. They were awesome. Today, sitting back at my desk in Newport Beach, I keep on thinking about the next time I can take them out to the rock. Thanks for helping us have a great day." Rose Conway

    • No experience required
    • Family with children age 5 up
You will travel to one of our seasonally selected climbing areas between the Zion National Park area and Saint George, Utah. Upon your arrival, you will hike in to the climbing site, get familiar with your harness, shoes, and other gear, and get into the good stuff:

      • Learn the ropes, literally
      • Climb multiple routes as you desire
      • Explore many techniques for moving over rock
      • Climb and belay with the whole family

Like our Adventure Series Canyoneering trips, our Family Rock trips are designed with family dynamics in mind. We accommodate parents and children from age five on up through the teenage years. The family determines the pace of the half- or full-day. You will learn and apply:

      • Figure 8 knot
      • Use of climbing shoes, harnesses, and helmets
      • General climbing safety principles
      • Fun, easy and moderate climbs
      • Belay techniques for those willing and ready

  • We provide all the necessary technical gear for your experience, but recommend you bring:
      • 2 quarts of water/person & food/snacks
      • Sunscreen
      • Warm clothing layers, and a wind jacket. Cotton ok.
