The Guided Narrows Experience

  • Exploring the Narrows with a Zion Adventure Company guide allows you many opportunities to learn about the flora, fauna, geology, local history, and nuances of the Bottom-Up Day Hike route. The experience we offer is not about how far, but how much you get to see along the way, and the knowledge base we bring to the table. Certainly, most people can hike the Narrows as a self-guided explorer. Those who wish a higher level of interpretation and sometimes richer, more thorough, visit to this awesome locale, choose to hike with Zion Adventure Company leaders.

*If you are interested in hiking the Narrows from the Top-Down you will not be able to have a guide and must choose a self-guided hike.  No guiding company is allowed to guide a trip in the upper section of the Narrows, (north of Orderville Canyon), in accordance with the Zion National Park General Management Plan Backcountry Compendium.
    • No experience required
    • Age 12 or older recommended in cold water seasons
    • Age 8 or older in warm water seasons

Once outfitted, we depart ZIon Adventure Company either by our vans, or park shuttle, depending upon time of year, and work our way up the scenic drive to the Temple of Sinawava. This 7-mile drive is extremely beautiful, and if we are behind the wheel, will make all efforts to stop for photo opportunities and interpretive moments. Once at the Temple we will make our last use of public restrooms then walk the 1 mile Riverside Walk until it ends at the Gateway to the Narrows. This is were we begin our river hiking experience and work our way approximately 1 3/4 miles up canyon to the junction of Orderville Canyon. National Park regulations for guided Narrows events make this our turn around point and we work our way back to the Temple of Sinawava. This trip is very much pace dependent, and may be as short as 5 hours, but as many as 8 hours. We will have numerous photo opportunities, and will be able to just glance into the reaches of Wall Street. Even though we turn at this point, the depth of experience we offer as your guide often exceeds those of self-guided hikers who travel through Wall Street.

Hiking the Narrows is canyoneering, though non-technical. It does not require any ropes, but it does require some skill and initiative. Your pre-trip orientation and gear up session with your guide will help us minimize risks, get outfitted appropriately, then build upon our simple safety guidelines to manifest an amazing experience in one of the greatest slot canyons.

  • We provide all the necessary Narrows outfitting gear for your experience, but recommend you bring:
    • 2 quarts of water/person + lunch/snacks for the day
    • Sunscreen and swimsuit in summer
    • Warm synthetic clothes any time of year
    • Camera
    • Zion N.P. Park Entry Fee, National Park Pass, or receipt if you have already paid it (required to enter the park)

We will outfit depending upon the weather. Drysuits, drypants, and footwear packages, thermal layers, dry packs, and other accessories will be provided according to your guides suggestions. If you have signed up for a Warm Water event or Cold Water event, and the conditions are opposite as expected, we will charge/refund accordingly.
